Being sick if full of surprises.
I think the biggest surprise for me is the reaction of others.
It was surprising to see who was there for me and who wasn't.
I was surprised with some people who weren't there for me that I thought would have been.
It made me sad to feel like some just didn't care.
Instead of dwelling on the negative, I was touched by the amount of people who came out of the woodwork willing to help me. People I hadn't even really talked to were wanting to come visit me in the hospital. I can't even tell you how much I appreciated my visitors. It gets SO boring in there. So many sweet people were willing to help me with whatever I asked. Even though I'm too stinking independent to accept the help, I appreciate it so much. I got phone calls, offers to bring meals, help with school, listening ears. It was wonderful. Being sick is great, everyone should try it. It makes you more sensitive to the needs of others. More compassionate and caring.
I saw this video on this blog and was totally touched.
It reminds me of the hymn we have in my church.
Have I done any good in the world today
Have I helped anyone in need
Have I cheered up the sad, and made someone feel glad
if not I have failed indeed.
"Love your enemies. Pray for them that despitefully use and persecute you."
