The story of baby

First, thank you everyone for your warm congratulations and support! I really feel like I have the best friends, blogging friends included :)

Would you like to hear the story of how I found out I was with child? I promise you, it's not typical!

I had an appointment with my gynecologist to follow up from some tests and figure out what the next step would be to fix my womanly problems I had been having. Lots of pain, basically. So anyway, we had discussed the possibility of a few surgeries helping. Clint and I were sitting on the couch talking after I had gotten home from work the night before my appointment. I brought up the idea of it maybe being a good idea to take a pregnancy test before my appointment because obviously if I was pregnant I wouldn't want to be making any progression towards the surgery options or more tests! I told Clint I had to pee and went back to the bathroom to take the test. I thought it was obvious what I was doing, but somehow Clint didn't connect the dots. Clint followed me back and was sitting on our bed outside the bathroom talking to me about something I was 100% not listening to. Sorry babe. Two DARK lines immediately appeared and I gasped (LOUD) and threw my hand over my mouth. Clint thought something was wrong and immediately opened the door asking me what was wrong. I couldn't say anything. With my hand still tightly gripped against my mouth, I just pointed to the test. Clint's eyes immediately got wide and he was speechless for what seemed like forever before saying, "HOLY CRAP!" I can't remember exactly what was said, but I'm sure it was a lot of "Holy Crap"s along with "I can't believe"-its and "WHAT?!"s. I remember for sure several times saying things like "That's TWO lines. TWO. It says I'm pregnant but there's no way. Maybe we should ask a neighbor for a third opinion to make sure we're not seeing things. How accurate are these things? What else can cause a positive test? There's no way. TWO LINES?! REALLY!?!?"

And so we googled how accurate pregnancy tests are. Answer: pretty darn accurate
Then we googled other possibilities of a positive test. Answer: Cancer
Then I was convinced I must have cancer because there's absolutely NO way I could be pregnant.

[bag of goodies they gave me at the office, ultrasound at 6 weeks 1 day, and my positive test! I'm one of the few girls who only took one pregnancy test. But, I left it on the counter for over a week so I could check it. I still didn't believe it]

Before going to bed I texted my sister mostly because I was so confused. She was super supportive and nice and talked to me until much later than she wanted to, I'm sure.

I went to bed completely in denial.

The next day at the appointment she routinely asked me when my last period was. When I told her I hadn't had a period in over three months, she asked if there was any possibility I was pregnant. I was still hesitant to tell her about the test because I still couldn't believe it. She told me I was due in the beginning of NOVEMBER! Hello, freakout session. Baby right in the middle of my LAST semester of school? Nope, there's no way. I didn't plan this, can't happen, no. Calculate it again. Don't worry, it's just cancer anyway.

She took me around the office laughing and smiling and telling the office staff I was expecting while I just awkwardly smiled. This was a dream, right?

[Sidenote: If you're wondering why I went over 3 months without taking a test, the reason was because I was skipping periods like crazy. It doesn't typically happen to me but it had been frequently lately. So after spending a ridiculous amount on pregnancy tests, I accepted it as the new norm]

[Sidenote 2: I realize I'm talking about things from a very selfish point of view right now and not cherishing the baby yet. But you have to understand how mystified I was. Now that it feels more real, I'm totally in love with my baby. End sidenotes. :) ]

They took a urine and blood sample to double tripple check I was pregnant. A few days later, they called me in for an ultrasound to do the dating. I was freaking out, especially considering I thought I could be as far as 13 weeks by this point! Clint was able to come with me thankfully.

They tried doing the ultrasound right on my belly but couldn't see anything. I was a little scared at this point. Then they tried the uh....other method. They found the baby which was measuring at about 5 weeks. This was bitter sweet!! I was happy to see the baby only at 5 weeks but on the other hand we were scared because we didn't know if anything was wrong and the baby wasn't developing, especially because there was no heartbeat.

They told us to come back a week later to check again. The baby was measuring right on schedule, 6 weeks, 1 day! With a strong and healthy heartbeat! We were so happy! At this point it sank in more there was actually a baby in there and it was coming in a few months whether I had anything to say about it or not!

It means I got pregnant without having a period, which is extremely rare. But since we were really doubting if I'd even be able to get pregnant in the first place, this surprise was VERY welcomed. Especially since we're pretty sure it'll let me wait until after graduation to bless us with its presence ;) Sometimes Heavenly Father has his own plans for your life. I've realized by now that his plan is always better than mine. So, bring on this awesome baby!

That is awesome! What a fun story. Also, I have those coral wedges too, and they're the best things ever (although, not quite as comfy as I'd hoped)!

Very exciting! I think it's funny you were thinking it was cancer instead of a baby! But, I can only imagine the feeling of seeing the blue lines..a baby is a BIG deal! You two will do great and yay for being able to graduate! :)

Congrats!!!!! I suppose it doesn't matter anymore because apparently you're capable of getting pregnant! :) but have you peen tested for PCOS? I just found out I have that which explained almost all my womanly problems. Including extended periods of time with no period. :) congrats again! That baby has an awesome set of parents!

Your story is crazy! But so awesome! And I'm so super happy that things worked out just how they're supposed to! Even if they were unexpected.

oh my goodness. This story is amazing. Truly. A miracle. I am so happy and feel like you got so blessed! It definitely seems like things fell into place--- I am SO glad you aren't due in November! I know what you mean about researching false positives and pregnancy tests and not believing it! Matt finally made me buy a digital test that said "pregnant" on it because I kept saying "How the heck do two lines tell you you are pregnant?!"

I can't wait to watch your little one grow and develop over these next months... and congrats! You are almost out of the first trimester! woohoo!

Yay for only taking one pregnancy test! I only took one pregnancy test because I didn't want the next one to be a negative! :)
